Agreement to improve ICT services in PNG

POST PNG and PNG DataCo Ltd are working together to ensure the country and business community can access quality ICT services at affordable prices in coming years. This was made possible through a lease agreement signed by the two State-owned enterprises in Port Moresby last Friday. PNG DataCo Ltd chairman Reuben Kautu said they were pleased to engage Post PNG as a partner to deliver and store its equipment. “We are implementing a couple of projects, in doing so we need partners who are in existence and have infrastructure throughout PNG and Post PNG is a good partner,” Kautu said. “Post PNG will now be providing logistics services for DataCo projects and with the signing of this lease agreement Post PNG will house our customer point of interconnect here in Port Moresby. “DataCo will offer wholesale services like submarine cables, satellite connections, connect whole country with internet to ISPs like Telikom, Bmobile and Digicel.” He added that DataCo was on track to deliver domestic optic fibre cable transmission capacity by early 2016 in the Highlands provincial capitals and in some mid-sized townships. Post PNG chairman Reuben Aila said the entity welcomes partnerships with other State-owned entities and government agencies that would like to use its logistics services. “We would like to be government’s logistics operator,” Aila said. “With our partnership with DataCo it enhances both our businesses and this is the way us SOEs need to look forward. It’s all about partnering and synergising on their strengths and weakness to grow our companies. “Post PNG in the last 12 months turned the business around and we are knocking on sister organisations to work with us. “We got a lot of critics but I’m sure with support from government agencies, we can provide important service for our people.”
