How to connect Digicel phone, modem to the computer to access Internet


Some phones have the compatibility to be set up as modems to access the internet. Modem drivers must be installed in your PC to enable you to access internet on your PC, using your phone’s internet connection.

If your PC does not have the modem driver installed, the internet will not work on your PC although it will work on your phone. Most GPRS compatible phones come with a CD or PC suite. You will need to install successfully to access the internet.

GPRS compatible handset models are:

Nokia 6220
Nokia 6500 Classic
BlackBerry


NOKIA 6220
To connect your Nokia 6220 as a modem, follow the instructions below.
Connect the phone to the PC via the USB cable
On the handset, a selection of USB mode is given
Select PC Suite
Open the Nokia PC Suite on the PC
Select Settings

Connecting to the internet
Select a modem
Select configure the connection manually
Enter the Access Point Name internet.digicelpng.com
Skip Username and password (They are not required to connect to the internet)
Click Finish.
Select Connect
This will connect you to the internet
Successfully installed, you can now use your phone as a modem to have access to the internet on your PC.
 
NOKIA 6500 Classic

To connect your Nokia 6500 as a modem, follow the instructions below
Connect the phone to the PC via the USB cable
On the handset, a selection of USB mode is given.
Select PC Suite
Open the Nokia PC Suite on the PC
Click CONFIGURE
Confirm that your Nokia 6500 Classic USB Modem is displayed
Click NEXT
Click Configure the connection manually
Click NEXT
Enter APN:  internet.digicelpng.com under Access Point slot
Click on (3) to complete configuration
Click CONNECT to establish a connection
Once a connection is established, go to the browser and access the internet

BLACKBERRY

To set up your BlackBerry as a Tethered Modem: Make sure your BlackBerry is connected by USB cable and your Blackberry Handheld Manager is running (just Launch Blackberry Desktop to run it). This is necessary if you want to use your blackberry as an external modem. You cannot use Blackberry as a modem unless you have Blackberry handheld Manager running in the background.  

To verify that the Modem Driver is functional:
Go to the control panel -> Phone & Modem Options
In the modems tab, you should see a new standard modem on a new port (such as COM6 or COM11 or COM4).
Click properties -> diagnostics-> query modem
Your screen will show the following:

AT#CLS=? - Command not supported    

AT+GCI=? - Command not supported    

AT+GCI=? - Command not supported

Important Special Configuration Step
Click properties-> Advanced and the following Extra initialization commands with the appropriate carrier - specific APN setting
+cgdcont=1, “IP”, “internet.digicelpng.com”  
Click Ok    
Digicel PNG APN:
+cgdcont=1, “IP”, “internet.digicelpng.com”

Add a New Internet Connection          
Close   the phone and the modem options and the control panel. Create a new connection with Start->connect to--> show all connections-> create a new connection
Or Control Panel->Network connections->Create new connection
Quote:

Click NEXT
Select “connect to the internet “ Click NEXT
Select “set up my connection manually” Click NEXT
Select “connect using a dial-up modem” Click NEXT
a) Check only the standard modem (if prompted)
b) Give the connection a name eg: Digicel Connection.
Click NEXT On the next screen, you use phone number *99#
Click NEXT:
On the next screen, pick one of the following, depending on your carrier:
Username………………… leave blank
Password…………………. leave blank
Clear all check boxes (“use…when anyone…”and “make this default…”)
Click NEXT check the box add shortcut to the connection to my desktop
Click FINISH
Disable IP Header Compression
Make sure TCP /IP Properties (Advanced) “Use IP Header Compression” Check box is NOT checked. To verify this, do these steps
Start Menu->Network Connection->Digicel Connection
Click PROPERTIES
Click Networking Tab
Select “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)”
Click PROPERTIES
Click ADVANCE
Disable “Use IP header compression” checkbox
Click all Ok to close all dialogs
