Internet Cost high in Papua New Guinea

The rates of internet in Papua New Guinea remains very high, making it inaccessible for a significant proportion of the population.
National Research Institute Director, Doctor Charles Yala said, PNG continues to rank poorly in the internet affordability index.
He said, on average, the price of a standard fixed internet connection in 2013 was more than two and a half times the income of an average PNG citizen.
Doctor Yala said, for this reason, the NRI has commissioned Deloitte Acess Economics, to undertake a study on why internet rates are high in the country.
Deloitte Acess Economics is one of the internationally recognized accounting and management consulting firms in the country.
The key findings from the research will be presented to NRI, including Internet Service Providers, industry operators, ICT and economic regulators on Thursday.
