Bank South Pacific Upgrading Banking Systems

Bank South Pacific (BSP)  is undertaking largest-ever project in 20 years across Papua New Guinea and the Pacific with a banking system upgrade, says chief executive officer Robin Fleming.
The upgrade will take two years to complete.
“While this project will occupy many staff in BSP, we have specific objectives to make our banking easier for our customers and to reduce waiting times,” he said.
“This involves getting Kundu cards or Visa debit cards into the hands of every customer and also getting every customer enrolled in mobile banking.”
Fleming said for various reasons, including inefficiency in BSP, too few customers had cards and even fewer had mobile banking.
“Actions including a more-streamlined process to on board customers, more training for our staff and adherence to processes, and use of technology will be employed this year to increase the number of customers who have cards and mobile banking,” he said.
“This will reduce the number of times they have to come to a branch to use their accounts.
“We will purchase new Eftpos terminals that will improve our capability to do more interactions with our customers outside of the branch as well.”
Fleming said they would also upgrade a number of branches and sub-branches around the country.
BSP will be employing over 150 additional staff this year to improve its capability to deliver services its customers expect and deserve.
Fleming said BSP had completed its planning for this year in the final quarter of 2018, with its business plan and strategies being approved at its board meeting in November.
