PNG Department of ICT to Provide Free Online Technology Training for All Public Servants in PNG

 The PNG Department of Information and Communications Technology made an announcement last year during its innaugural ICT Summit that the Department will run series of free technology training for all public servants in PNG this year (2022).

The Department released a statement this week to affirm its commitment to unskilled the ICT workforce in the public sector.


The training is open to all public Servants free of charge through the National Cyber Security Centre according to the statement released.

The training will include courses such as Introduction to Information Technology, Practical Networking, and Service Desk Analysis.

"DICT is committed to providing opportunities for all public servants to develop their digital skills and knowledge so they can contribute to PNG’s rapidly growing online presence.

"This is highlighted by the Digital Transformation Policy 2020, which envisions that ‘promoting digital literacy among citizens and businesses will be a key component of developing a strong ICT ecosystem, the Department stated in the media release

The Minister for Information and Communications Technology, the Hon. Timothy Masiu MP highlighted the importance of ensuring all citizens and businesses have access to opportunities to build their digital literacy.

“Technology is continuing to change the way we do business, and the use of technology is not only improving business processes but can also give a business its competitive advantage,” he said.

The Department prioritizing this training to public servants who must understand Information Technology to be able to provide better digital services to the people of Papua New Guinea.

DICT is actively progressing digital transformation and making it a cornerstone of public administration.

As stated in the Digital Transformation Policy 2020, a key step in developing a thriving ICT ecosystem is building PNG consumers and businesses’ confidence to initiate and complete transactions online.

After completing the training package, individuals will be eligible to undertake more advanced courses such as Cyber Security, Robotic Process Automation, and Data Analytics.

The Department also thanked the Australian Government for making this initiative possible.
