China is looking to help Papua New Guinea through Science & Technology. The Chinese ambassador Zeng Fanhua says China is looking forward to working with the new Papua New Guinea government to build human resource through science and technology.
Speaking during a mini-graduation for PNG graduates of Chinese universities, Zeng said he believed in using education to develop a quality workforce.
“We place education and science and technology in a central position of economic and social development, with increasing investment over the years to promote unprecedented development in science and technology education, cultivating a large number of quality talents which provide strong support for China’s economic and social development,” Zeng said.
He said China was willing to support PNG’s interest to invest in science and technology by providing scholarships for students to study in China.
He said China had provided assistance to develop PNG’s education sector through the construction of the Butuka Academy in Port Moresby, and Western Pacific University in Southern Highlands and providing scholarships for PNG students.
Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology acting secretary Dr Francis Hualupmomi said the government had emphasised on education and creating space and that the important strategy was to partner with a development partner such as China.
Hualupmomi said the Government was ready to collaborate with development partners to develop human resources.
“The Marape Government has amplified this great initiative,” he said.
