Building a Robust Technology Foundation in PNG : The GovStack

As part of the Digital Government Delivery Workshop Day 1, Session 3 yesterday delved into the components of the GovPNG Technology Stack, providing insights into the government's approach to cloud technology, private networking, interoperability, cyber security, standards, and compliance.

Mr. Russell Woruba, DICT’s Deputy Secretary Digital Government set the stage with introductory overview of the GovPNG Technology Stack. He emphasized the importance of building a robust and secure foundation for the government's digital transformation journey.


DICT’s Manger for Government Cloud & Shared Services, Mr Glen Vitou provided an overview of the government cloud initiative. He highlighted the benefits of cloud computing, including cost savings, improved agility, and enhanced collaboration.

The communications infrastructure is key in the GovStack model, and as such DICT’s Manager for Infrastructure & Government Private Network Mr. Kedesh Pinia presented an overview of the government private network (GPN) architecture, its security features, and its role in ensuring reliable and resilient connectivity across government agencies.

Mr. Jack Tomon, Projects Manager, shed light on the Interoperability project, and discussed the government's efforts to promote interoperability through the SDXP initiative. He explained the concept of SDXP and its importance in enabling seamless data sharing and collaboration between government agencies and external partners.

Ms Georgina Kiele, Executive Manager – Cyber security, provided an overview of cyber security measures in place to protect government systems and data. She emphasized the importance of user awareness and training in preventing cyber attacks.

Mr Benedict Sike, Manager – Digital Government Standards, discussed the role of standards in ensuring the quality and compatibility of government IT systems. He emphasized the importance of adopting open standards wherever possible to promote vendor lock-in and ensure interoperability.

Covering the compliance aspect of the GovPNG Technology Stack was Mr. George Memafu, Compliance Advisor, who provided an overview of the various regulations and compliance requirements that government agencies must adhere to when implementing IT systems. He emphasized the importance of complying with data privacy laws, accessibility standards, and other relevant regulations.

The presentations on the GovPNG Technology Stack highlighted the government's commitment to building a secure and scalable foundation for its digital transformation journey. 

The Department of ICT as the lead ICT agency is taking a Whole-of-Government approach for the alignment to digital government through the Gov Stack for a more efficient, effective, citizen-centric, and service focused digital government.
