China-Solomon Islands Partnership Activates Five New Telecom Towers

In a major boost for digital connectivity across the Solomon Islands, China Harbor Engineering Company (CHEC) and Huawei have commissioned five new telecommunication towers, raising the total number of operational sites to 40 as of July 31, 2025.

The newly activated towers are located at Sigana (Isabel Province), Tirotonga (Isabel Province), Laugoata (Central Province), Leufoman (Central Province), and Tiaro (Guadalcanal Province). These installations are part of a broader initiative to expand reliable communication infrastructure to remote and rural communities.

The improved network coverage is expected to bring tangible benefits to a wide range of sectors, including small businesses, farming communities, health centers, and schools. Enhanced connectivity will enable entrepreneurs to engage in digital trade, provide farmers with access to market data, and strengthen emergency response systems in local clinics.

For education, the new towers are seen as a game-changer, especially for schools in isolated areas. Improved access to online resources and communication tools is set to bridge the digital divide for students and educators in the provinces.

A spokesperson from CHEC and Huawei reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the Solomon Islands' digital infrastructure ambitions, highlighting that the project aligns with the country’s broader vision of inclusive and nationwide digital transformation.

This latest milestone marks continued progress under the strategic partnership between the Government of the Solomon Islands and the Government of the People’s Republic of China. Further tower installations are planned in the months ahead to ensure broader communication resilience across the nation.
