PNG Cybersecurity Milestone as Local Expert Earns Global CEH Certification

PNG Cyber Expert Sets National First with Global Ethical Hacking Certification

A Papua New Guinean cyber security professional has set a national first by attaining a globally recognised ethical hacking certification endorsed by the United States Department of Defense.

Solomon Wesley Sua, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Cyber Security (PNG) Limited, has earned the Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) v13 certification, making him the first Papua New Guinean to do so under the EC-Council programme.

The CEH credential is widely regarded as the gold standard in ethical hacking and is recognised under the US DoD 8140 framework, which governs cyber workforce readiness and national security operations.

Mr Sua said the certification qualifies him for high-level cyber roles internationally, including positions within the US military and government agencies.

“This achievement also positions Papua New Guinea to deliver cyber security services locally and across the region,” he said.

Mr Sua holds a Master of Science in Cyber Security, completed with Summa Cum Laude honours at EC-Council University in New Mexico.

He said PNG must prepare for increasing cyber threats as it transitions to digital governance systems.

“Cloud-based services such as SevisPass and electronic voting systems must be protected. Local expertise is essential to safeguarding national infrastructure,” he said.

Mr Sua said achieving the certification required extensive sacrifice.

“It involved studying over 4,000 pages, investing more than K10,000, and enduring long hours of preparation for a four-hour examination,” he said.

Despite being eligible for employment overseas, Mr Sua said his commitment remains with Papua New Guinea.

“I love this country and want to defend its cyber ecosystem,” he said.

The Western Highlands native from Tambul-Nebilyer electorate is currently pursuing further professional certifications in cyber forensics and network defence, while also studying Digital Health Systems through the University of Liverpool.

Mr Sua said his long-term vision is to strengthen PNG’s sovereign digital capability through his company, Cyber Security (PNG) Limited, reducing reliance on external responders and building national resilience.
