A proud graduate Diesel and Heavy Equipment Fitter from Port Moresby Technical College, Elijah stepped into the cadet program in September 2025 with a strong desire to learn and contribute to the country’s aviation sector. The NAC Cadet Scheme, delivered under existing Memorandum of Agreements with Port Moresby Technical College and Lae Polytechnic Institute, is designed to equip young Papua New Guineans with practical skills in airport operations and technical services.

His first posting took him to Mt Hagen’s Kagamuga Airport, where he spent three months gaining valuable field experience. During this time, Elijah was exposed to real operational environments, allowing him to develop confidence, discipline, and technical competence while working alongside experienced aviation and engineering teams.

Following his rotation, Elijah is now attached to the Fleet and Workshop team at Port Moresby International Airport. The transition has opened new learning opportunities, giving him hands-on experience with critical airport machinery and equipment, including fire tenders and tractors that play a vital role in ensuring safe airport operations.

Elijah shared that he is enjoying the exposure and practical work, saying the experience has helped him understand the importance of maintenance, safety, and teamwork in aviation. Each task, from servicing equipment to observing operational procedures, is shaping his skills and strengthening his passion for technical service in the aviation industry.

His journey is a testament to the vision behind the NAC Cadet Scheme — investing in young talent and creating pathways for technical graduates to become skilled professionals who can support PNG’s growing aviation sector. Through structured rotations and mentorship, cadets like Elijah are gaining the real-world experience needed to excel in their careers.

The program reflects National Airports Corporation’s long-term commitment to building a skilled and diverse workforce that supports safe, efficient, and sustainable airport operations. Stories like Elijah Arua’s continue to inspire young Papua New Guineans to pursue technical careers and play a role in ensuring the nation’s aviation sector thrives under the leadership of its next generation.
