PNG DataCo Boosts Marianville Secondary with K400,000 ICT Upgrade

Marianville Secondary School outside Port Moresby has taken a major step into digital learning after receiving new information and communication technology infrastructure and equipment valued at K400,000 from PNG DataCo on Friday.

The investment, delivered under PNG DataCo’s community service obligation program, is aimed at strengthening students’ access to modern digital tools and preparing them for an economy increasingly shaped by technology beyond the traditional classroom.

The support package includes 128 desktop computers, 36 laptops, seven wireless access points and four Lenovo IdeaHubs. The equipment has been installed across junior and senior computer laboratories, teachers’ workspaces, departmental offices, and the school’s conference and television rooms.

PNG DataCo also provided technical expertise to install and integrate the systems, ensuring the infrastructure is fully operational for both teaching and learning.

During the opening of two new ICT laboratories, PNG DataCo chief executive officer Paul Komboi shared his personal ties to the school, noting that his wife and three daughters were all former Marianville students.

The junior ICT facility was officially named the Komboi Digital Hub, a gesture recognising the family’s long association with the institution.

Komboi said the new laboratories would help students develop more than technical abilities, describing them as spaces where discipline, confidence, communication and resilience could be built.

“We were living in an era of digital transformation where artificial intelligence and global connectivity co-exist,” Komboi said.

“To maintain your legendary standard of excellence, your learning environment must not just keep pace; it must lead.

“These laboratories are more than rooms with computers — they are gateways.”
