| New website launched for Port Moresby college, PNG's digital push continues |
PAPUA New Guinea's drive toward a more digitally connected education sector received a boost this week after Port Moresby Business College introduced its newly designed website to staff, students and government officials.
The launch, held on Monday at the college, was attended by DHERST Secretary Lonnie Baki, who delivered the keynote address, together with members of the POMBC Council and college staff and students.
Speaking at the event, Council Chairman Parululu Kwarara said the website was more than a communications tool, describing it as a signal of the college's readiness to embrace digital transformation and build the kind of IT infrastructure needed to compete in a changing environment. He pointed to international student enrolment as a growing part of the institution's future economic outlook, noting the site would serve as the main gateway for people wanting information on courses, enrolment and application updates.
Mr Baki, in his address, said the significance of the website went beyond its simple appearance online. He told the gathering that in today's environment, the manner in which an institution communicates and engages with its community has become just as important as the services it delivers. He tied the launch to POMBC's Strategic Plan 2026-2029, saying it supported key result areas spanning infrastructure and digital transformation, governance, graduate employability and academic standards, while also aligning with the National Higher and Technical Education Plan 2026-2031's push for adaptive, tech-driven institutions.
The DHERST Secretary urged students to build technical, communication and entrepreneurial skills capable of meeting the demands of a workforce increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence, automation and online commerce.
He also had a message for those managing the college.
"Protect the Institution's history, respect its tradition, but do not allow tradition to prevent innovation," Mr Baki said, adding that the website launch was a practical demonstration of the strategic plan already in motion.
To students, he offered a final word of encouragement: "PNG needs your ideas, your energy and your courage."
