World Vision is a Christian international and locally registered relief and development agency, which has been working in the Solomon Islands for over 30 years. Our vision is to work for a world that no longer tolerates poverty. We work with communities as partners in sustainable development initiatives. World Vision Solomon Islands (WVSI) also responds to humanitarian emergencies. We currently require the service of experienced persons for the following position;
Communications Manager (To be based in Honiara, Country Office)
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Communications Manager will set and guide the strategy for all World Vision Solomon Islands’ communications to consistently articulate WVSI mission to our target audiences. The Communications Manager will ensure that the strategic direction covers all operations at both the Country Office and Area Program levels in accordance with World Vision Solomon Islands (SI) country strategies.
Role dimension
Communication Management
• Develop, direct and deliver an integrated and contextually appropriate strategic communications plan based on priority program goals for children and communities.
• Ensure team delivers on content requirements in the content calendar.
Gathering and producing content
• Research, write and, as appropriate, publish stories about successes and needs in World Vision Solomon Islands (WVSI) projects as outlined in the annual work plan.
• Pitch compelling story, photo and other resource ideas through the World Vision ContentFlow website as appropriate.
Engaging with media and social media
• Increase the visibility of WVSI as a child-focused organisation through existing and innovative channels.
• Together with the communications team, liaise with the national and local press to support media coverage of WVSI programs.
• Work with Support Office media colleagues (primarily in Australia and New Zealand) to highlight WVSI programs and priority issues in media outlets in those countries
Emergency communications
• Monitor possible emergencies (earthquakes, tsunamis, droughts, floods etc.) and provide updates to the World Vision partnership as required.
• In the event of an emergency (e.g. earthquake or flood), the Communications Manager co-ordinates with World Vision partnership communications colleagues and oversees the production and dissemination of appropriate communications resources.
