Online Market good for Businesses in PNG

ONLINE marketing can help small to medium-sized business enterprises in PNG sell their products to a wider audience, a business trainer says.
Fredrik Orrenius, co-founder of Emerging Classifieds Venture which deals with online marketing, said small to medium-sized enterprises could reach more people through the internet.
Orrenius was in Kokopo on Friday to conduct training at the PNG Entrepreneur’s Academy boot camp.
“It is important for SMEs to use technology as leverage for their products,” Orrenius said.
“SMEs in Papua New Guinea must be part of the digitisation process.
“SMEs can use technologies to sell their products and services. You can reach many people online.”
He said the PNG Entrepreneur’s Academy programme was to support SMEs and people thinking of starting one.
“The aim is to create the basis for the start-ups,” Orrenius said.
“It is about setting up a platform for what you want to do as a business. We’ve done several trainings in Port Moresby and Lae and now we are in Kokopo.”
There are 50,000 SMEs in the country.
The Government plans to increase that to 500,000 within the next two years.
About 400 people have attended the programme since its inception.
The programme is funded by the Australian Government through the Australia-Papua New Guinea Partnership Programme.
