Applications are sought from suitably qualified persons to fill the following position within the Mechanical Engineering Department of the University.

Department of Mechanical Engineering

The department offers a four-year undergraduate degree and a graduate masters and PhD programs in Mechanical Engineering. The department has 16 academic members, 13 technical staff and 3 administrative staff. There are six laboratories in Thermal and Heat Transfer, manufacturing, material science laboratory, thermodynamics that includes refrigeration and air conditioning for students' laboratory work and research, along with a medium size workshop with facilities for machining, milling, a computer numerical control (CNC) machine, EDM, and fabrication including a 3000°C foundry. The department also has an NDT Center for research and consultancy service to industry. There are several researches done in the areas of design and manufacturing, materials characterization, renewable energy and environment, mechatronics, engineering education and refrigeration and air conditioning.

ICT Support Officer

Reporting directly to the Head of Department - Mechanical Engineering - the successful candidate is expected to display an exemplary leadership role and take ownership of ICT related issues in the department. The key responsibilities will include:

Liaison with the HoD and ICTS department to ensure IT service continuity in the department

Design and maintain departmental website
Handle systems hotline and helpdesk enquiries
Troubleshoot hardware and software issues
Operate and work with equipments such as smart-boards, computer diagnostic tools, printers, etc.
Ensure local area networking systems function without failure
Regularly check and ensure CNC machine is in operational condition.
Support new users with their accounts and profiles, password issues
Install, configure, test and upgrade computer software and hardware
The candidate is also expected to interpret diagrams and written instructions to repair fault or set up a system and liaise with telephone technicians where necessary.

Applicant for the position must have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent qualification from a recognized university with 3 or more years of relevant work experience. S/he should have the ability to think logically and solve problems, high attention to details, service oriented with a strong commitment to teamwork and with good interpersonal and communication skills.

Condition of Service:

Base Salary Range: Senior Technical Officer PGK 26,013 - PGK 36,563 per annum

Base DMA Range: PGK1,000 - PGK1,500 per annum

(Level of appointment depends upon qualification and experience)
