A Telikom PNG tower which collapsed in Port Moresby last Wednesday has affected fixed and mobile services provided by Bmobile and Telikom within Korobosea and surrounding areas.
The company said in a statement that its communication tower at Air Niugini Hill fell to the ground during the period of strong wind gusts and rain experienced.
“No injuries have been reported, however, the fallen tower caused some damage to adjoining properties,” Telikom said.
“Services restoration is underway within the area, although some customers may continue to experience delays during the restoration period – estimated to be up four weeks depending on weather conditions.
“An external structural engineer and internal risk management officers have been commissioned to conduct independent assessments of the site to determine the root cause of the incident.”
Telikom PNG thanks Air Niugini management and residents of the impacted areas for their patience and support.
“We also commend our staff deployed on site and working under difficult conditions to clear the area and restore services,” it said.
“TPNG will continue to monitor weather conditions across the country at this time and are doing all we can to maintain telecommunications services.”
