The remote provincial high school on Akib Island in the Hermit Group of Islands in Manus Province, Papua New Guinea , is the first school in the province to have free internet access.
There has been no means of communication in or out of the island for many years.
However, Manus MP, Job Pomat, funded the installation of a V-SAT system to enable communication for the islanders as well as learning for the students.
Mr Pomat used K31,000 of his discretionary funds to set up the V-SAT unit, which comes with a free data plan for two years.
