System 1 or phase 1 of the Kumul Submarine Cable Network (KSCN) project is progressing well as Wewak prepares to recieve the fiber optic cable system tomorrow.

After a successful landing in Vanimo last month, the underwater cable will now run through Wewak and later to Madang via a transit connection point from Lorengau, Manus Province.
PNG DataCo GM of Engineering Services Tony Morisause says this project is a game changer for the IT industry in the country as PNG looks to be more active in the digital economy.
Mr Morisause gave an overall update of the project saying by June, all of Papua New Guinea will be connected by fiber optics.
The cable laying ship 'Ile De Re' landed in Wewak this afternoon and will start works with the official landing to be held in NBC Wewak tomorrow by Government officials and PNG DataCo executives.
