PNG Minister Masiu calls for ICT Consultations

PNG Minister for Information Communications and Technology, Timothy Masiu has urged all government agencies with ongoing ICT Infrastructure Projects to consult with the Ministry for ICT.

The call comes as the ICT Department moves to undertake an extensive evaluation of the Integrated Government Information System Project.

Mr. Masiu said after the completion of the evaluation, a new design for government ICT Infrastructure will be put in place.

This will be followed by the commencement of consultation and consolidation of the intended Government ICT Infrastructure design within the Digital Government Bill currently being worked on.

The Minister explained that the IGIS Project was supposed to connect all national and provincial governments, unfortunately, it did not have an appropriate policy and legislative framework and was not managed well.

He said this led to the mushrooming of other Government ICT projects under various Departments.
