THERE has been no change in Papua New Guinea's mobile internet price since the completion of the Coral Sea Submarine Cable system last year, a researcher says.
Dr Amanda Watson, a research fellow with the Department of Pacific Affairs at the Australian National University, said in an online business briefing recently that they had been doing a survey since the beginning of last year and there had been no real change so far in mobile internet prices.
“We are aware that there was an overall decrease in mobile internet prices from mid-2016 to the late 2019,” she said.
“In 2019, in the announcement of the bmobile and Telikom merger, price slightly decreased.
“But as we’ve been tracking since the beginning of last year, there has been no change in the prices for bmobile and Telikom.
“Last October, Digicel did change some prices of their data bundles.
“But, overall, there has been no real changes in mobile internet prices in PNG.”
She said apart from monitoring existing mobile service providers, they intended to monitor Amalgamated Telekom Holdings, new mobile service provider that is expected to enter the market later this year.
