Papua New Guinea court as issued a warrant of arrest for an Australian man who was charged with cyber harassment. The warrant was issued after he failed to appear before the Waigani Committal Court in Port Moresby.
Russ Hutchins, 73, of Queensland, failed to appear for a third time for arraignment yesterday on the charge.
He was alleged to have sent vulgar and derogatory emails to a female staff member of Airlines PNG.
Prosecutor Sgt Joseph Sangam asked the court to issue an arrest warrant which was granted by Magistrate Danny Wakikura.
Hutchins’ bail was also set aside.
The warrant was made returnable on Nov 4.
According to the police, Hutchins sent various derogatory messages to the complainant at 7.50am on June 17 while at work.
The matter was reported to the cybercrime section of the 7-Mile Police Station in Port Moresby.
