UPPER primary students in Papua New Guinea can now access their subject lessons through a weekly telecast programme on television station TVWAN.
The Digicel Foundation and Education Department launched the “Be lit” partnership programme in Port Moresby last Monday.

Digicel Foundation chief executive officer Serena Sasingian said the Education Department’s content on early childhood, mathematics and sciences and flexible open distance learning would be screened with other partners’ educational programmes.
Sasingian said the trial that started last Monday would continue until December between 9am and 11am.
Sasingian said the better literacy or “Be lit” programme would become a fully fledged 24-hour education television channel next year.
“This is all part of Digicel PNG Foundation’s education pathways strategy.”
Sasingian said the initiative was the first major shared value project between Digicel PNG Ltd and Digicel PNG Foundation.
Education Department secretary Dr Uke Kombra said there was a teacher in every school “but in the case where there was no teacher present, the next best option was the education channel”.
He said the channel could play a role in ensuring there was some contact with students.
“The initiative means a lot to every child and every family,” Kombra said.
