PNG Ministry for ICT to host inaugural National ICT Summit

The minister of Information and Communications Technology honorable Timothy Masiu has announced that the ministry for ICT will for the first time host the National ICT Summit on 10th -12th November 2021.

The inaugural National ICT Summit will now be the official forum for Government to bring together the public and private sector to share experiences, ideas and discuss current trends, practices, and developments in the use of ICT and digital technologies.

The theme of the Summit is “Enhancing our economy through ICT and digital transformation”.

This theme reflects the Government’s current thinking to align PNG’s effort on ICT with global trends and best practices but tailored to suit PNG’s circumstances.

The Thematic Areas are as follows:

  1. Access, Connectivity, and Infrastructure & Digital Inclusion 2: Governance & Project Management
  2. Digital Government Services
  3. Financial Inclusion
  4. Digital ID and Data Governance
  5. Innovation and Entrepreneurship, 
  6. SME, Agriculture, 
  7. Mining, and other innovations 
  8.  Critical National Infrastructure
  9. Digital Skills and Digital Literacy
  10. 1Media & Broadcasting Industry
  11. Cybersafety and Cybersecurity

The inaugural Summit was initially planned for earlier this year but was delayed due to the pandemic restrictions.

The event will be 100 percent virtual and live-streamed for free on NBC TV as well as on the DICT and NBC TV Facebook social media pages.

"We are also encouraging the general to watch and interact online as we will be taking live questions during each thematic session.

The outcomes of the forum shall inform and validate the current Government’s thinking and guide the development of appropriate policies to accelerate the digital transformation towards a digital economy" Minister Masiu stated
