The PNG Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has made notable progress in its efforts to standardize government domain names, emails, and websites, marking a significant milestone in the country's digital transformation journey.
In an official announcement, DICT Secretary Mr. Steven Matainaho provided updates on these developments and extended an invitation to all Digital Transformation Officers (DTOs) in provinces and district executives to participate in a pre-launch conference and workshop today.
Scheduled to take place starting today, July 3rd to 6th at the Holiday Inn Port Moresby, the pre-launch workshop will serve as a pivotal platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and addressing challenges associated with the digitalization of government services.
Secretary Matainaho emphasized the significance of the event, stating, "The conference and workshop will serve as a platform for sharing best practices, addressing challenges, and collectively envisioning a future where digitalization is at the heart of our government services. The Department of ICT stands ready to support and guide you throughout this digital transformation journey."
Elaborating on DICT's phased approach, Secretary Matainaho outlined the progress made thus far. Phase 1 of the standardization process has been initiated in Provinces and Districts, with the aim of establishing consistency and professionalism in the digital presence of government entities nationwide. This phase will culminate with the highly anticipated launch of the Medium-Term Development Plan 4 (2023-2027) on July 7th, 2023.
Looking ahead, Phase 2 is set to commence in this quarter, encompassing all national government agencies. This phase emphasizes collaboration among key stakeholders and aligns with the PNG Digital Government Act 2022 and the shared commitment to citizen-centric digital services. DICT seeks to enhance access and streamline online services for the people of PNG, ensuring a cohesive and efficient digital experience.
Secretary Matainaho expressed his gratitude to the entities that have already embraced the standardization process within their respective provinces and districts.
