Reporting To: Manager, Database and Middleware

About the Role:

Join our team in Port Moresby as a Database Administrator, reporting directly to the Manager of Database and Middleware. In this role, you will be pivotal in ensuring the availability and performance of BSP's critical databases that support our applications. Your responsibilities will include maintaining operational procedures, monitoring database availability, and providing essential support to internal stakeholders to uphold agreed Service Level Agreements.



Key Responsibilities:


  • Ensure timely and high-quality delivery of database services to Application Teams and Business customers.
  • Monitor and maintain database availability, developing processes to meet or exceed Service Level Agreements.
  • Provide efficient support to internal customers regarding database creation and maintenance, escalating issues as necessary.
  • Complete assigned tasks accurately and within defined timeframes, adhering to Change, Incident, and Problem Management processes.
  • Provide primary and secondary level technical support, including participation in ONCALL/SHIFT rotations.
  • Manage business risks related to databases, ensuring compliance with Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery plans.

Assist with Audit enquiries and ensure timely implementation of recommendations.

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree in IT or related field.
  • Proficiency in SQL query writing and database programming.
  • Strong understanding of Database Modelling, Design, and Administration principles.
  • Experience with High Availability, Data Integrity, Security, and Performance Monitoring.
  • Familiarity with Data Migration and Transformation using SSIS/DTS or equivalent technologies.
  • Knowledge of Data warehousing, reporting using SSRS, and BI tools.
  • Minimum 2 years of practical experience in database administration.
  • Experience in an ITIL incident and change managed environment.
