PNG Finance Department and BSP Advance Digital Payment System

Papua New Guinea’s Finance Department and Bank South Pacific Financial Group Limited (BSP) have taken a major step forward by advancing to the second phase of their digital payment integration system.

Ronesh Dayal, BSP’s general manager for retail banking, said the integration aims to provide safer, faster, and more convenient online payments for key government services.

He said the PNG Finance department’s website now supports card transactions through BSP’s internet payment gateway (IPG), complementing the existing BSP Pay platform.

“With this update, citizens can pay using their Visa debit cards for services like police clearance, firearm licensing, and more—24/7 from anywhere,” Dayal said.

He mentioned that the bank’s objective is to boost digital efficiency and reduce dependency on manual payments.

This progress expands the digital initiatives started in May 2023, which introduced BSP Pay and electronic receipts for public transactions.

Dayal said the collaboration makes service access easier and strengthens transparency, while reinforcing BSP’s support for the government's digital transformation goals.
