Digicel PNG Set to Launch 5G Pending NICTA Approval

Digicel PNG says it is ready to roll out 5G services across the country following strong results from its initial network testing phase.

Chief executive officer Tarik Boudiaf said the 5G trials have delivered impressive outcomes in speed, latency, and efficiency, showing the network's potential to transform connectivity in Papua New Guinea.

“These early results indicate that 5G will enable us to drive digital inclusion and support innovation and economic development across PNG,” Boudiaf stated.

He noted that the company is awaiting the green light from the National Information and Communications Technology Authority (NICTA) to proceed with the commercial launch.

Minister for Information and Communications Technology Timothy Masiu recently confirmed that 5G coverage is being prepared for rollout in Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Goroka, and Kokopo.

The expansion is part of NICTA’s Spectrum Roadmap 2025-2030, which aims to widen access to mobile spectrum and promote emerging technologies.

Boudiaf added that Digicel PNG remains committed to working with NICTA to ensure all regulatory steps are completed as the company continues investing in the nation’s digital future.
