YouTube’s $24.5M Settlement Marks Trump’s Latest Tech Victory

YouTube has agreed to pay $24.5 million to settle a lawsuit filed by former U.S. President Donald Trump over the suspension of his account following the January 6, 2021 Capitol riots. Under the settlement, $22 million will go toward the Trust for the National Mall to support a White House State Ballroom project backed by Trump. Another $2.5 million will be shared among other plaintiffs, including the American Conservative Union and writer Naomi Wolf.

The agreement closes a major legal battle between Trump and the video-sharing platform, though YouTube and its parent company Alphabet did not admit to any wrongdoing. No policy or product changes were included in the deal, which is part of a wider pattern of settlements Trump has reached with major technology companies regarding content moderation and account restrictions.
