Chief executive officer Mark Robinson said the bank was investing heavily in technology to keep pace with the evolving payments environment.
“Transaction volumes are increasing and of course, customer expectations are increasing even faster,” Robinson said.
He explained that the new EFTPoS platform would play a vital role in improving access to financial services and supporting the shift towards digital payments.
Robinson said the initiative would also benefit businesses by enhancing efficiency and enabling smoother transactions.
“We are helping businesses operate more effectively, manage demand and enhance customer service,” he said.
He added that BSP’s goal was to ensure payments are simple, secure and reliable, while building confidence in digital systems across the Pacific region.
BSP head of merchant services Barry Namongo said more than 6,000 of the nearly 7,000 distributed devices are already in use across PNG.
He said further expansion is planned across the Pacific, including Tonga, Samoa and the Cook Islands, with Solomon Islands, Fiji and Vanuatu to follow, alongside new features such as fund transfers, balance checks and dynamic currency conversion.
