Mobile Phone Companies or Operators in Papua New Guinea

There are three Mobile Phone Companies or operators in Papua New Guinea (PNG).  These companies are Digicel, Bmobile-Vodafone and Telikom PNG.  Below is the description of each of the companies.

1. Digicel 
Digicel is a mobile phone network provider operating in 31 markets across the Caribbean, Central America, and Oceania regions. The company is owned by the Irish billionaire Denis O'Brien, is incorporated in Bermuda, and based in Jamaica. Digicel first entered Papua New Guinea in 2006. The company rolled out its services the following year 2007.

Product and Services
Digicel provides the following services.
- Broadband Internet
- Wifi
-  Voice and data Services
- 3G/4G network
- Cover most parts of the country.

Cons: Many customers on the company's network have complained of poor customer service and disappearing data and credits.  Their data rates are expensive compare their competitors. They also offer ridiculus combos services from midnight 12 am - 6 am

2. Bmobile-Vodafone
Bemobile Limited is a 100% Government of Papua New Guinea owned company since November 2016, through Kumul Consolidated Holdings (KCH) and has been operating in PNG since 1997. They are Papua New Guinea's very own and first-ever mobile carrier with operations in Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands (since 2009)
In 2014, Bemobile Limited partnered with the world's largest mobile operator, Vodafone. The new entity, bmobile-Vodafone's vision is to be the leading provider of mobile voice and data services in Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. They now offer high-speed data, reliable voice and SMS across Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. They footprint is growing rapidly and similarly their innovation of products into the market (Purchasing of electricity, Voluntary contribution to Superannuation, Insurance, Buying airline tickets) regardless of the type of handset that a customer owns.

Cons: Their coverage is mainly in the major centers of the country. Rural areas are not covered.


3. Telikom PNG 
Telikom PNG is the leading telecommunications company with a telecommunications system that is among the most modern in the South Pacific region.

Telikom offers retail business of voice and data broadband services along with wholesale business of these voice and data services.

Its network is entirely digital, extensive and a well established combination of microwave radio, satellite and intra-city optical fiber transmission systems that connect to a nationwide network through telephone exchanges and data switches while linking PNG worldwide with it Optical Ground Wire system and submarine cables through PPC-1 PIPE in Madang and APNG 2 at Ela Beach.

With its proud history of service spanning over six decades, Telikom is into the business of providing advanced innovative communication solutions in PNG and clients in the region.

New products are also available to help families and businesses alike have more reliable access to telephone and internet. The aim is to continue the increase in the number of homes connected to the national network, where fixed line local calls are still the cheapest option for staying in touch.

Services currently available feature landline, Telikom mobile service, fixed wireless voice & data, Wimax broadband, VSAT, PABX, IPLAN, VPN, hotspot, and video conference.

Telikom Mobile, a product of Telikom PNG provides mobile service with competitive call and data rates with coverage available to most urban centers around the country.

In terms of mobile service, Telikom’s shares in bemobile have been transferred to the Independent Public Business Corporation, thus bemobile is a separate entity from Telikom since 2008. Radio broadcaster Kalang Advertising is one or two subsidiary companies with Telikom staking 100 percent ownership and 54 percent share for PNG directories.

Telikom business offices are established across the country to assist valued customers with sales for product and service maintenance along with a 24/7 Customer Care Call Center.

Cons:  Telikom does not cover the rural areas.
