PNG Youth Urged to Embrace Digital Transformation and make a living

In a compelling address at the NCD Youth Expo and Summit 2024 held at APEC Haus, Mr. Steven Matainaho, Secretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology, called for a digital transformation among Papua New Guinea's youth. He underscored the significant role of communication technology in fostering innovation and economic opportunities.

Mr. Matainaho highlighted that communication technology is "enhanced by times of change," pointing out the power of smartphones in modern society. He encouraged young people to leverage social media platforms for content creation and financial gain, noting various monetization options such as advertisements on YouTube and Facebook.

Emphasizing the necessity of verified accounts for accessing revenue streams, Mr. Matainaho explained that obtaining verification, like the blue tick on Facebook, provides additional monetization opportunities but requires meeting certain criteria.

Addressing existing challenges with payment systems, Mr. Matainaho called for greater awareness regarding available solutions and financial partnerships. He also discussed the need for guidance in content creation and collaboration, whether from the government or social media platforms.

The Secretary emphasized the importance of producing high-quality content and urged creators to rise above negative criticism. He encouraged them to recognize their unique value, market their influence to private companies, and harness their digital potential for both impact and income.
