Computer Labs : What are the alternatives for PNG schools?

Article by Able Computing

In PNG educational curriculum, ICT topics has been gradually introduced(say from Grade 8 till up to Grade 12) yet most of the students are still sharing computer units. Some secondary schools even offer the strand to few students which is more likely equivalent to the number of computers that they have(2 is to 1 might be the ratio). With the skyrocketing prices of computer sets due to problem in supply brought by COVID pandemic, one has to be innovative to uplift the ICT /Computer Lab infrastructures.

One technology which was regularly used as alternative is the “Thin Client Network using Virtual Desktop Device”.  Having one server (which have the app installed coming from your preferred vendor) can cater to multiple  student station using a monitor , mouse and keyboard. It’s a cheaper option as of the moment, we normally recommend the standard computer setup for the students to see the physical computers while taking the course/strand. Now another aspect that the client has to look into is the annual registration for the application software, unlike before where you just buy the device and set up your server. You can set aside $10-$15 for every device connected to your server which uses the app.

The effort done by one of the secondary school in Kerevat(George Brown Secondary School) would greatly speed up the learning process of the students taking computing classes. We hope to support you in every little way we can in upgrading the computer lab.

For those thin client users in PNG that cannot use the units because of registration problem, please feel free to contact your preferred IT EXPERTS.
