What is easipay Power?

Part of PNG Power’s plan as a business entity is to introduce the Easipay system throughout the country so that consumers pay for the amount of electricity they use.

Easipay is a user-pay system where customers who buy power (kWh) receive a computer generated sixteen or 20 digit number, representing the information about the customer meter and the amount of power (kWh) purchased.

The customer enters the digits on the meter, which has a keypad similar to the telephone keypad. If the numbers are entered correctly, the amount of electricity in kWh is registered on the meter.

A lighting system similar to the traffic light system will show green for sufficient power, amber for one week’s supply and red for three days supply. When the light is red, the customer buys another lot of units and if not, the meter switches off if the last unit is used up.

The minimum purchase is K10.

With this system, the buying power is in the customer’s hands and the customer does not owe PNG Power any debt and PNG Power does not disconnect the customer.

The rest of the consumers throughout the country who are on the credit meter system will have their credit meters replaced with the Easipay meters.

So far, the Easipay system is used in NCD, Lae, Kainantu, Goroka, Mt Hagen, Madang, Wewak, Kokopo and Buka.

Buy power through your Digicel phone!

In 2009, PNG Power teamed up with mobile phone company Digicel to launch a top up system using mobile phones, a first of its kind in the country and region.

The system allows 24 hours accessibility to all customers anywhere in the country. It allows greater convenience, especially for Easipay customers in the rural areas who have to pay so much in transport cost to get to the nearest Easipay vending sites to purchase their credits.

The service is similar to Digicel’s credit me system and attracts a nominal fee of K1 per transaction. Customers will have to have credits over K11 on their Digicel phones to be able to obtain Easipay units.

The system allows the customer to purchase a minimum of K10 and a maximum of K50 Easipay units.

Users can purchase their electricity doing the following:

Step 1: Type on your phone *775*meter number*amount#

Eg: *775* 2809541*10#

Step 2:

You will receive a confirmation message asking you to authorise the transaction

Eg: Meter Name: Mr Kila Bargi

Press

1 to Confirm or

2 to Cancel

Step 3:

You will receive a message with your prepaid voucher number and transaction reference number

Step 4: Enter the number into your meter.

If customers have any problems with their transaction, they can call Digicel’s customer service on 123 or PNG Power’s customer service on 3252631, 3254549, 3243550, 3243551 or after hours numbers 323 4774, 3428610, 3428617.
