Lawyer Baundo Francis has called on members of the public and other respective authorities to come forward with affidavits to support his case to ease the process of SIM registration.

The registration is sanctioned by the Government and carried out by the regulator National Information and Communication Authority (NICTA).

He made this call yesterday, a day after a National Court decision to defer the matter of challenging the SIM registration regulation by NICTA to January 17 for further direction.

Mr Francis said he is representing the majority of mobile phone subscribers in the country that are unable to register due to the remoteness of their location and inability to provide the proper identification.

“If there is anyone out there, certain individuals, any concerned authorities or for this matter any person at all who would like to support the case with supporting statements to support the case or support the cause, invitation is open,” Mr Francis said.

He said he is now in the process of carrying out awareness on the matter as he intends to get the views of mobile phone subscribers as affidavits to support his case.

The ongoing issue of SIM registration continues this year with the proposed deadline date moved to January 23.

The extension of the deadline comes as mobile network operators have failed to register a good number of their subscribers prior to the previous deadline of December 31, 2017

NICTA officially started the registration process in August of 2016 however, it had picked up to a slow start from both mobile phone subscribers and network operators.
