PNG Dept to use online application tool to work remotely

THE  Papua New Guinea Personnel Management Department will use an online application as a new tool to work remotely under new-normal protocols to avoid Covid-19 community transmission.

The department said in a statement that its management information service team had created the app called “Google Teams”.

“The department endeavours to find innovative practices of conducting business internally and with other government agencies under the new normal,” the statement said.

The department held its executive management meeting yesterday via this Microsoft Google Application to start using the application.

Department secretary Taies Sansan said due to challenges faced by public servants during the surge in Covid-19, the need to be innovative was crucial to find new ways to work while preventing the spread of the virus in the country.

“As a lead government agency, I have insisted on the use of such working tools by my department and I am glad this app can be used for meetings and workshops that require more than 10 people to be in one room, especially in communicating with the provinces,” she said.

“Despite a few technical issues, the executive management meeting was conducted via the use of this app with success.”

Sansan said such innovations could be applied by line agencies to ensure public service was adhering to the Covid-19 protocols under the Government’s national isolation strategies.
