Statement by DataCo
Customers in the hinterlands of Hagen and Hides will soon have faster and stable internet with the completion of this structure, the high voltage transmission pilons (towers).
DataCo has exclusive arrangements with PNG Power Limited to install and access fibre optical cables on these pilons all around the country.
Recently, we have been experiencing network outage due to fibre optic cable faults along the distribution lines which have been subjects of damages due to heavy cargo trunks, burning of bushes and house and vandalism due to landowner issues.
This will be now resolve as these pilons are very high in height and so will prevent accessibility and damages of the fibre cable.
The Kumul Submarine Cable (KSC) that runs from Port Moresby to Madang will run through this fibre cables installed on PNG Power pilons from Madang to all the provinces of Highlands including connecting Hagen and Hides.
The KSCN is part of the Nationals Transmission Network (NTN) that connects the coastal provincial centers around PNG to Port Moresby datacenter.
The NTN then connects to the Coral Sea Cable that then connects Port Moresby Sydney, Australia.
This information highway (cable) connecting the highlands of PNG to the rest the world has tremendous potential to boost economic activities and the much needed government services such as health and education.
Hence, DataCo will endeavor to ensure that our network in the Highlands is more reliable going into the future and we apologies to our valuable customers for the downtime caused in the Highlands over the last two weeks.
