THE PNG Judiciary launched its satellite network on Friday that will service the new court complex from next year and in the meantime provide connectivity for the Supreme and National Court buildings.

It (the judiciary) celebrated the installation of the first of four largest dishes, a 2.4m dish at the Waigani Court house, witnessed by Prime Minister James Marape, judges of the Supreme and National Courts, Police Commissioner David Manning, Registrar of the Supreme and National Courts Ian Augerea, law and justice sector agency heads and the directors and mangers of the national judiciary staff services.

Secretary Jack Kariko said database and digital services including document lodgement, case management, criminal case processing, finance and human resource management were services that could be better provided electronically and in their digital form could help prevent fraud and corruption.

He said the recurring theme in their corporate plan over the last five years had been their preparation for the 21st century court, fully equipped to provide timely justice for all citizens.
